Why I Created Side Walls for My Beach Cabana
If you’ve ever taken a baby to the beach, you’ll know the dream and the reality are two very different things.
The dream is salty air, happy kids, sandy toes, and a relaxed day by the water.
The reality? Wind, sun that seems to come from every direction, strangers walking past your setup, and trying to breastfeed while holding up a towel like some kind of human privacy screen.
As a mum, I loved taking my baby to the beach. But every trip made me realise something was missing.
The Beach Is Beautiful, But It Isn’t Always Baby Friendly
Beach cabanas are amazing for shade, but they’re open. Which means:
• The sun moves and suddenly your baby is no longer protected
• The wind blows sand everywhere
• Your little one is crawling toward strangers' towels
• And if you need to breastfeed, change a nappy, or settle an overstimulated baby… you’re doing it in full view of everyone walking past
I remember trying to breastfeed while sitting under the cabana, constantly adjusting, covering up, and hoping my baby wouldn’t get distracted by everything happening around us.
What should have been a calm moment felt stressful.
I Wanted a Calm, Safe Little Space
What I really wanted was simple.
A small enclosed space where:
• I could breastfeed without feeling exposed
• My baby could play safely in the shade
• The wind and sand were reduced
• My little one wasn’t constantly crawling toward other people’s setups
Basically, a little beach “room” within our cabana.
Somewhere calm.
Somewhere protected.
Somewhere we could just enjoy being at the beach.
Why Side Walls Made So Much Sense
That’s when the idea of cabana side walls started to make sense.
Side walls transform an open shade into something much more functional. They create:
• Extra sun protection when the sun shifts during the day
• Wind protection, which makes a huge difference with babies
• Privacy for breastfeeding or changing
• A safe play space where little ones can sit, crawl or nap
Instead of constantly adjusting towels or chasing shade, you suddenly have a defined little area that feels calmer and more comfortable.
Beach Days Should Feel Easy
When you’re a parent, the little things make a big difference.
Having a space where you can quietly feed your baby, let them play safely in the shade, or just sit down without worrying about sun exposure makes beach days feel easier.
And that’s exactly why I created side walls for beach cabanas.
Because sometimes the best ideas don’t come from a business plan.
They come from being a parent at the beach thinking:
“There has to be a better way to do this.”
